One of these many clubs is called Huntington Youth Leaders (HYL), an 8-month long program that is made up solely of sophomores who wish to participate in creating service projects that will benefit their community. This club is sponsored by Dave Harvey and Ruthann Rust, two HNHS teachers who wish to see underclassmen thrive in their leadership.

The two sides were named, respectively, the East Egg and the West Egg.

Liesl, a 5-year-old Bernese mountain dog, wanders the halls of Salamonie Elementary School on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Or, as owner and art teacher Cindy Callison calls them, “T-days.” Liesl is a trained therapy dog and loves to hang out with the kids of Salamonie during recess and while Callison teaches her art classes.

Five student-made cards were selected to be the fronts of HCCSC’s holiday cards, sent to the superintendent’s mailing list. Two cards came from Riverview Middle School and one card came from each of Lincoln Elementary School, Salamonie Elementary School and Crestview Middle School.

Huntington North senior Addy Wiley made history at the 2022 IHSAA Girls Track and Field State Finals to cement her legacy as one of the state's best athletes

On June 1, 2019, a relatively unknown freshman from Huntington North High School seemingly shocked the state, upsetting Abigail Lynch of Brownsburg to win the 1600 meter run state championship with a time of 4:46.93, an incredible improvement over the 5:20.35 she posted at the sectional meet two weeks prior and 4:55.19 posted at the regional meet one week prior. Fast forward three years to Friday night in Bloomington, and Huntington North senior Addy Wiley was anything but an unknown this time around. Featured on the cover of the official meet program and other promotional materials for the meet, Wiley put a resounding exclamation point on her historic high school career to cement herself as one of the greatest runners in Indiana high school history.

On July 24, 2020, the Horace Mann Elementary family experienced a great loss when our classmate, student and friend, Wyatt, lost his six-year battle with cancer. However, memories of Wyatt live within those who knew him. The influence he had in the lives of others was far-reaching. You did not have to personally know Wyatt to be affected by his story. Many followed his battle with cancer and walked alongside of him and his family in their hearts and prayers.

Lincoln Elementary School teacher Lynda Laatsch passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020. Laatsch taught at HCCSC for 27 years in multiple buildings. In her honor, fifth grade students at Lincoln recently collaborated with accomplished singer and songwriter Steve Seskin to produce the song “More Than a Teacher to Me.”
