HCCSC's annual holiday cards feature designs from five studentsFive HCCSC students have been selected as the winners of the corporation’s annual Christmas card cover design contest, with three winners coming from Salamonie School and one winner coming from both Lincoln Elementary School and Riverview Middle School.

A long-standing holiday tradition, HCCSC asked art teachers to have students design holiday-themed greeting card covers for the annual holiday card sent to the superintendent’s mailing list. A total of 55 designs were submitted for the contest from the three aforementioned schools.

With countless quality entries, the selection committee and HCCSC Superintendent Chad Daugherty had a tough time choosing just five winners.

“We had several excellent pieces of art submitted for the Christmas card contest this year,” Daugherty said. “I was so impressed with the high quality of work produced by our students. It was difficult to select just a few for printing, and I wish I could have printed them all!”

The five victorious designs were chosen after much deliberation, as Salamonie’s Claire Brown, Clare Fortney and Zoey Hensel, Lincoln’s Holly Price and Riverview’s Irelynn Hethcote created the winning covers.

Brown cleverly opted to pay homage to her last name with a Charlie Brown design, while Fortney constructed a multi-medium Christmas tree with aluminum foil tinsel. Hensel rounded out Salamonie’s trio with a watercolor design featuring Rudolph. Price’s design displayed a traditional snowman scene, while Hethcote completed the winning quintet with a love-themed ornament.

Daugherty presented each of the winning students with their original artwork and five copies of the holiday cards featuring their respective designs on Thursday to honor the students’ creativity and execution of producing the selected designs.
