Virtual Learning

Virtual Learning Option Guidelines

The HCCSC Virtual Option is a means to offer students an opportunity to participate in online learning provided through the district. Students participating in the Virtual Learning Option will have the same academic requirements as those students participating in a Traditional Learning Environment. This contract is intended to present to students and their parents the standards expected for enrollment in HCCSC 2020-2021 virtual options.

As a student registering for a HCCSC virtual option, I am aware that, in addition to the policies and requirements of my school/district, I am expected to comply with the following standards:

1. Internet accessibility is needed daily; families are responsible for their child’s internet access. Digital citizenship will be appropriately used as outlined in the course materials; inappropriate use of the internet will not be tolerated and may result in the loss of the student’s rights to participate in virtual learning.

2. Appropriate language and message content is expected at all times (teachers may retrieve and print student work, comments, and messages).

3. Students are expected to adhere to the following procedures:

a.    Students must communicate with the teacher on a daily basis.

b.    Students must use course materials in an authorized and appropriate manner.

c.     Students will be expected to follow other rules specified by the   HCCSC teacher and/or their school.

4. There may be a mandatory Face to Face for students to participate in such as:

a.    Elementary - NWEA, F&P Benchmarks, IREAD, ILEARN

b.    Middle School - NWEA, ILEARN Assessments, etc.

c.     High School - ISTEP, SAT, Final Exam, etc.

 5. Students are responsible for contacting the HCCSC Technology Department if issues arise with their school issued device at 260-356-7812.

a.    Elementary - Apple Device

b.    Secondary (6-12) - Windows Device

6. If a student is experiencing difficulty in completing assignments and/or is struggling to maintain a passing grade the teacher and/or administrator will reach out to the student and parents to create a plan for future success.

7.  If a virtual student decides to attend in-person classes, please contact the building principal of your child’s home school.  Virtual students may transfer to on-campus classes one time.

8. I have reviewed the expectations included in the Virtual Option Guidelines. Please print out the form available below and return to Chelle Huston at HCCSC Central Office  ([email protected]).
